What is a scavenger hunt?
A scavenger hunt is a bit like a treasure hunt, except it is done almost entirely out in nature. You enjoy a family nature walk, while keeping everyone motivated and moving forward by engaging them in a nature adventure – can they find all the pieces of the puzzle and complete find everything on their scavenger hunt printable?
How to do a nature scavenger hunt
Doing a scavenger hunt may seem a little daunting to begin with, but is actually very easy and lots of fun. They can be done by all ages – toddlers, pre-schoolers and older children. Even adults can test their powers of observation.
To help you out, we have devised the six nature walk directions. If you pay attention to all these directions while out and about on your adventures, you will be sure to find everything there to be found. Just remember to look, listen, smell, feel and use your imagination.
Where to do a scavenger hunt
Our printable scavenger hunts cover all sorts of themes and topics – from habitats, such as the woodland scavenger, to individual objects like tree leaves or berries. Once you have chosen the activity you would like to do, you simply take the printable along with you, keep a sharp eye (or sometimes even ear) open for the wildlife shown on the printable and tick it off when you see it.
